AI is rapidly moving from buzzword to business tool in Guernsey’s regulated sector. The challenge for many boards and compliance teams is no longer if they should use AI, but how to do so responsibly, without adding risk or complexity.

At Onyx Solutions, we’re working with local firms to answer that exact question.

Following our recent event, “AI in Compliance; How is it shaping up in Guernsey?”, kindly sponsored by Graphite Accounting Solutions Limited, this page brings together the key ideas we shared and explains how you can trial our AI solution, Owlexa, in your own organisation.

Why AI matters for compliance

Used well, AI can help organisations:

·          Analyse large volumes of data quickly and consistently

·          Automate repetitive or low-value tasks, such as elements of AML/CFT/CPF reviews

·          Reduce the likelihood of human error

·          Support more proactive risk management and regulatory responsiveness.

However, AI also brings challenges: the “black box” problem, data privacy and bias, and the need to guard against hallucinations or over-reliance. Boards remain fully accountable, which makes control, explainability and auditability essential.

Our approach: specialist AI, built for regulated firms

Our AI offering, Owlexa®, has been designed specifically for financial services and professional firms in Guernsey and similar jurisdictions.

Key features include; Specialist “owls” for different functions, with a secure and private architecture, all underpinned by human-curated knowledge.

Owlexa® is part of a broader ecosystem including ONYXTrack®, our digital compliance management system, and ONYXTrain®, our CPD-accredited learning platform, helping firms strengthen governance, culture and capability as a whole.

Reducing risk: prompts, process and oversight

We help teams adopt AI in a structured, controlled way, focusing on:

Robust prompting practices – defining persona, context, task and output clearly

Practical safeguards – breaking down large documents, checking understanding, and resetting when needed

Clear roles and accountability – positioning AI as an assistant, not a decision-maker.

Combined, these measures ensure that AI supports, rather than replaces, professional judgement.

What’s next: Nexus and autonomous agents

We’re currently developing Nexus, our next-generation platform, planned for launch in Q1 2026, which will handle very large document sets, operate on a transparent pay-as-you-go model and provide an enhanced audit trail for AI usage and outputs.

Longer-term, we’re exploring autonomous agents capable of carrying out routine multi-step tasks, such as pulling data, running checks and drafting reports, always within a clear governance framework and under human oversight.
